This class will focus on:
Local grains in the high desert, and we’ll discuss:
- The benefits of locally grown grains on the environment and for your health, even the controversial topic of gluten!
- Ways you can incorporate a variety of tasty grains into your diet and tips for cooking
- Make tortillas and pancakes with locally grown Sonoran wheat and wheat berries.
The Desert Oasis Teaching Garden is a community education and experiential learning farm exploring the potential for agricultural abundance, water conservation, and climate adaptability in the desert Southwest. With a focus on regenerative agriculture, the DOT Garden stewards over twenty seed varieties, predominantly heritage beans and grains, as part of their commitment to growing regionally adapted foods. With a focus on sustainability, the DOT Garden fosters biodiversity of soil, plant, and animal life as a way to build community & ecosystem health without the use of pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers.
